Today is my last day inside the laboratory! next will be me, my office (probably (almost certain) my room also) and writting... and writting... and writting!
Of course that yesterday I had to burn a cotton... of course!!! grrr...

It's strange because I am not feeling the "goodbye thing"...
maybe because I will still be here in my office (which is not only mine =p) writting for the next couple of weeks.... or maybe because I only start missing something after it has ended...

anyway, now it's still morning and a long mutagenesis experiment waits for me...

ah, and I also have a flat tire! (other grrr...)

off I go!

A while ago me and Manel had a tiny little problem with a subject's grade: because of the new bolonha system, this subject stopped existing. Thus, it was decided that it's grade would be published as the grade of a new subject in our course.
So far so well, wasn't it I see the end of the semester arriving, the grades of the rest of the people being published and mine and manel's grades being let behind.

Since the email is our friend:

from me to the teacher:

Dear professor,

My name is Inês Antunes, nr. 51810, and I would like to ask you how it is my situation with the EBI-I grade, since I am one of the students which EBI-I's grade should be the one of ISIS's subject?
I am now doing my formal training in Delft, so it hasn't been possible to follow this process so well as I wanted to.
Thank you for your attention.
kind regards,
Inês

From her to me:

Hello Inês
thank you for reminding me about your grade. According to professor's Raquel instructions, your ISIS's grade will be published as EBI-I's grade.
Good internship.

Supposedly from me to Manel:

Manolo, the teacher forgot about us. Here is her answer, but I only reminded her about me. However, I think that reminding her about me, I also remind about you.
Anyway, here is the email I sent to her, in case that you wanna use it. =)
kiss kiss and good luck with your monography***

From her to me:

Inês
You have sent me this email by mistake, but your colleague's situation is the same as yours, i.e., he will have the ISIS's grade in EBI-I.

From me (a little bit (a lot!) worried) again to her:

Dear professor,
Sorry for the mistake.
Good afternoon,
Inês

from her again to me:

well, some times it happens but this one wasn't so serious.
Good work.
---------------

I don't know what did she mean with the "this one wasn't so serious". But I was lucky because I even like the teacher and, thus, it wasn't any 'bitch" in the email or some #$%#$^$ about the fact of she had forgotten us. Maybe it was that what she meant with the "this one wasn't so serious". =p

welll...

Protocol to detect if a bike's pipe works properly:

1. Open the bike's lock.
2. If it's cold outside, take the bike inside the building.
3. look for the air pump of the building in order to fill the flat tire with air.
4. If you don't find the air pump, then look for someone who might have a tire pump.
5. If nobody can help you, then go back to the place where the pump should be and look better.
6. If you finally find the pump, than fill the tire with air.
7. Dive the tire in a bucket with water in order to see if any air comes out of the pipe.
8. If the tire does not fit into the bucket and you don't feel like taking out the tire of the bike only to see if the pipe works, than take the bike to the nearest canal.
9. Dive the tire into the water, as shown in the picture:

10. If there is no bubbles coming out of the pipe, then it is OK.
note: If it's too dark to see the bubbles properly, then believe in your own instinct.

Protocol to fix a possible hole in a tire's bike (in case of the pipe is OK):

1. Turn the bike upside down.
2. Put a girl with laboratory gloves holding the bike, as shown in the picture:

3. Try to take out the tire, in order to dive it into a bucket with water (the same of the previous protocol) and look for bubbles (they indicate a hole).

note: By now is already night and dark outside, so the canal is not an option, neither your instinct.

4. In case of the nut doesn't rotate because it's STUPID, OLD and RUSTY (grrrr...), then try harder.
5. If it still doesn't rotate, then think a little bit about the issue.
6. Meanwhile, if you realise that the tire, after being filled up with air because of the pipe's test, still seems OK and filled, then think that maybe the tire was only without air, but healthy.
7. Say to the bike's owner (the girl with the lab gloves) to ride on the bike for a couple of days and see if in fact THAT CRAP has a hole.

to be continued...

my yesterday...

stupid fog and stupid cloudy sky that didn't let me see the moon eclipse.

the sunset in the afternoon, though... that was something! =)

and something I found...

...and I'm listening (a lot)!

Monday 18 February 2008

sometimes I change my mind about what I like and sometimes I don't. sometimes I discover new things that I like and sometimes I want to forget that one day I liked them. sometimes there are things I want to like (such as beer... its very useful here! =p) and some others I just wanna keep myself far from liking them. sometimes I forget something I like and only eons later I find it again (like some musics lost in my pc or clothes lost in my closet...) and some other times I make sure that something I like does not go away. sometimes I change my way of liking something and other times I just like something in one way and one way only! sometimes there are things I know I will like forever and some others I feel myself liking them only because they happened in a special time, in a special place, near special someones (even if I didn't know them). =)

Anyway... saturday night was the blues festival in Delft. I confess that it isn't the kind of music I listen to every day, but it was the kind of thing that happened in a special time, in a special place, near special someones (that I did and did not know).

well, listen what I listened to (the way I listened to =p) on saturday night and I think you will like it in your own kind of way:

=)

Friday 15 February 2008

I don't like fermentations! I don´t!

but I love this music... I love...

enough said, the make-shift
is a comfortable chair
sit back and i'll tell you
we're living in fear
and i don't know
why you talk so rough
why should i be
not sure of my-
self my intentions
they are cristal clear
i wanna pay my duty
to your daddy dear
hold on to your decency
i'll make you whole
and we'll be free

isn't it always so?
the story is unfold, at least
you got a different role
and now you gotta quit
the scene

I favour your flavour
I'm confronting you
you stroke a bad patch
with the man who has you
and baby won't you
consider me
I'll make you whole
and you'll be free
and we're driving around
on a saturday night
we're feeling alright
everything's in sight
and baby won't you
consider me
I'll make you whole
and we'll be free

isn't it always so?
the story is unfold, at least
you got a different role
and now you gotta quit
the scene

isn't it always so?
the story is unfold, at least
you got a different role
and now you gotta quit

A creepy story...

It all started on Saturday night, when we decided to go out and watch a movie in the cinema.
Well, everything was ok until the movie started: Cloverfield!

…a really good movie, but also compleeeetely terrifying.

It is so real and so agressive in each moment that, if I already yell a lot in terror movies, in this one I almost had a heart attack. Even the Blair Witch project didn’t make me feel as frightened as this one.

But the story does not end here... and since I am always with my camera, I also taped what came next, just like the guy in the movie did. =p

Is quite funny seeing people (us included) leaving the rooms and the building (not by the exit doors!) all relaxed, smiling and wondering about what the hell was happening… haha
I still don’t know what happened there but, since it was just after our movie ended, I think that someone who was also seing that movie really enjoyed it and decided to scare people by making the fire alarm go out.

a post for the girls that want to do a tattoo!

today in the kitchen my friend (and roommate) Eva told me after looking at my neck:

- You are crazy!!! always complaining about waxing, and then in the end you have a tattoo!

well girls, actually, concerning to this subject, I am not crazy!

To those who want to do a tattoo but are afraid of the pain: WAXING HURTS MUCH MORE!!!! I would rather do a tattoo every 2 weeks if that could make all my undesirable body hair (I don't know the exact word to it in english, sorry) go away!!! =p

to those who have holiday (grrr...) and still didn't celebrate...

happy carnaval people!!!!

mine has already passed and it was in maastricht with teletubbies, people that I don't know who they were but that had sun glasses, people with horns, pandas that yell (a lot!), dedicated priests (I don't remember the name of these kind of priests...), hugs, jukeboxes (this one is for you alperce! =) ), sexy snow whites and capuccinos drinked by a straw (because it was so so so so cold that I didn't have courage to take out my extra special state-of-the-art gloves! (translation: luvas xpto especial de corrida!)!):

...

When I was a little child, while all my girlfriends wanted to be butterflies, mermaids, bambies or even mother of children, I remember that I wanted to be a tiger or a lady lion. Their mixture of beauty, respect and velocity were just perfect for our plays. Furthermore, tigers and lions could always win bambies, butterflies, mermaids and mothers. =p
Later and because my dad was always bothering me about how important was to study, graduate and be someone important in my life, I, only to annoy him, decided that firewoman would be a good option.
Being like Einstein also ran through my head. It would be quite interesting to be so intelligent (an easy thing for me... =p) and admired by everyone. The only problem was the secondary effects... a crazy look!!!
Football or politics never came to my idea, maybe because I already had moral values and respect for people by that time.

After so many decisions and indecisions, choices and doubts, other options arose while I was getting older, mature and responsible (cof cof...): journalist, lawyer, teacher, among others... until I finally chose for science.
well, it is not that I regret it, but sometimes I don't know if it was the best option. For example, in an inspiration moment, last friday I burned two cottons in a row (two more to add to the huge list). =p

Maybe i should have chosen an artistic career. However, it is never too late. Since I already know about science, I could do Modern & Contemporary Art inspired on Science. For example, this one below should be in the Louvre don't you think so?

...maybe not!!!

haha

ps - my lab environment also doesn't help me on getting a normal scientific carrier...

(while my lunch)

but, actually, I even enjoy eating on the floor!!! =)
